Photographer's Note

Perhaps it was my state of mind or state of exhaustion as I clambered up the steep incline of the unofficial Ridge Trail in the Superstition Wilderness, but this old husk of an agave looked like an unhappy, unfriendly alien or misplaced octopus clinging to this rock.

The Ridge Trail leaves from the Carney Spring parking area which is about 0.7 miles before the Goldmine Trailhead on Peralta Road east of Gold Canyon. It's not for the faint of heart - both literally and figuratively - as you'll eventually ascend more than 3,500 feet and most of that is in the first 1.5 miles of the trail.
