Photographer's Note

Red Mountain, officially Mount McDowell after Union General Irvin McDowell, is sacred to the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indians. Access to the mountain is prohibited to hikers, climbers, and photographers due to vandalism of its ancient petroglyphs in the 1980s. Its located north of Mesa, Arizona. This photo was taken from an unnamed trail on the north side of the Salt River. The trail is accessed from the Blue Point Beach recreation area of the Tonto National Forest.
