Photographer's Note

The Hearst Castle, the former mansion of American newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst, is an architectural and artistic wonder along California's Central Coast. Set atop a hill, it appears from below like a large church; after making the trek up to the site, it is revealed to be a sprawling compound of neo-Spanish, Moorish and neo-classical architecture, statuary, topiary and artwork the equal of anywhere in the world.

This indoor pool is located below a tennis court just behind the main house of Hearst Castle. The tilework is in deep blue and gold trim, and a large bay window casts light across the pool. The platform above center is a diving board.
