Photographer's Note
LES PARAPLUIES DE CHERBOURG
The classic 1964 French film "Les Parapluies de Cherbourg" ("The Umbrellas of Cherbourg") leaped to mind when I saw this unusual scene in the lobby of the Venetian Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The film had starred the very beautiful actress Catherine Deneuve… unhappily nowhere to be seen in the lobby of the Venetian.
We had descended on Las Vegas with full team, not to partake in the defining industry of the city, gambling, but rather to attend the wedding of a nephew and his new bride, and to celebrate a family reunion.
A HARROWING FLIGHT
The weather in Las Vegas during mid May was nothing short of sensational — blue skies, dry, and relatively cool. The one unpleasant experience was the flight from Washington, DC to Las Vegas. The Airbus A-319 in which we were flying had serious mechanical trouble. A monotonic voice from the cockpit announced, “We’ve lost the main electric generator… and we've lost the back-up generator. But we do have a second back-up generator. To be safe,” the announcer continued, “… we are going to land in Denver, so that we can sort things out.” It is quite rare for a generator to fail. It is much much rarer for two to fail. Suspecting an endemic problem that was shorting out the generators, I became worried about the last generator. At the very moment of the announcement the view from the window suggested that gliding down to the ground sans electrical power was not an option.
However, we did make a successful pit stop in Denver, where an identical plane had been prepared for us. And we continued onto our final destination, Las Vegas, in an otherwise seamless flight — just 2:15 hours late.
I dedicate this photo to nephew, Jay Ward and his lovely new bride, Danielle.

Hello Bulent,
I like the way the light illuminates these umbrellas, and their magical suspension from the ceiling. It is like an "umbrella rainbow" descending down from the sky. Thank goodness you made it to Las Vegas safely!

Hello Bulent,
The colors, light, and shadows are beautiful. It is a happy composition after a frightening flight to Las Vegas. What a spectacular view from the airplane window, but I can imagine how scary it must have been to look out and see this when the generators on your plane were failing. Thankfully, your plane landed safely in Denver and all ended well. Congratulations to the newlyweds!
Kind regards,

What a stressing flight to witness a wedding!
It seems it rains umbrellas! Good POv, and the bright sun enhances the colors of the umbrellas against a brown BG.

Gia sou Bulent,
This is a nice (and surprising) view of colorful falling umbrellas.
Cheers
PS: The photo in the workshop is very good also. I suppose that there is no option at all of landing, if the plane is out of electric power. You must love photography a lot to shoot under these circumstances (and shoot well).
At the end this experience may illuminate the gift of life better

Hello Bulent,
Your recount explains why I am not keen on flying!
The view from the plane window reveals a less than accommodating view of a site, for a gliding landing!
However, alls well that ends well!
How sad that there was no Catherine Deneuve! Beautiful as the umbrellas are, they are not quite in the same class!
Your photograph is so full of colour and fun! I love the way they give the impression of floating down to earth, like multi-coloured raindrops! The light has created a wealth of tones which contrast well with the much more dour coloured b/g.
Have a great Sunday,
Bev :-)

Very nice to see all these umbrellas. Its like some chinese movie flick. The colors are captured very well. Very nicely managed light as due to sunlight and so many colors there are a lot of light sources to be dealt with.

Olá Bulent, this is an enchanting picture. It's very poetic which is strange since we are in Las Vegas...I confess that I don't know the mentioned film but I'm expecting to see Mary Poppins holding one of those at any second. Wonderful play of light and colors even if the architecture of the background is not very sugggestive.
Wish you a nice week,

hello dear Bulent,
very impressed about your mishap, scary, especially in view of the panorama, very successful indeed, from your window!
umbrellas seem very air in comparison, is a truly original decor, pretty lights that pass through all these colors, the music of the film comes to my ear,
I really like the version of Liza Minnelli - I will wait for you (1972)
beautiful composition,

Hi Bulent,
It is wonderful as umbrellas are beautiful in the sun!
It would be necessary to use them as the Japanese women to protect itself from the sun!
There is a magic atmosphere in this photo, we look at the show with children's eyes, fascinated by colors.
Thank you for this so nice moment!
