Photographer's Note
Not sure whose canoes these were, but they seemed to be asking to be paddled. (No, I didn't borrow them--but I wish I had). I think the walk along Swiftcurrent Lake to nearby Lake Josephine is one of the loveliest short walks I've ever done. It was about a mile each way, almost no elevation change, and the most beautiful old forest, with beargrass sprouting everywhere.
The funny thing is that the main reason I wanted to come to the Many Glacier area was to see Lake Josephine. But Glacier weather being what it is, between the time we walked from the Many Glacier Hotel to Lake Josephine, which took all of 20 minutes, the weather went from completely sunny to completely overcast. When we got to Lake Josephine, it was very windy and starting to rain, so my pictures from there aren't very noteworthy. We only stayed 10 minutes at Lake Josephine before turning around, and by the time we got fairly close to the Many Glacier Hotel, it was back to sunny weather as you see here. I wanted to turn around and go back to Lake Josephine, but we were in too much of a hurry.
The mountain on the right is Grinnell Point, and the mountain in the distance on the left is Mt. Gould, home to the Grinnell Glacier.
I rediscovered my shots of Glacier after letting them lie dormant for quite some time. One of my favorite places.

Very nicely composed, your picture has all the elements of a good landscape shot: decent light, interesting sky, a body of water, elements of interest in the background and foreground. As only problem, it gives me the strong impression that it is tilted right. It might be just an optical illusion, although I do not think this is the case. In any instance, it should be corrected.

Hi Clark.
Great photo of its kind - boats pulled up on shore of lake, mountains in background kind of thing! Seriously, it looks great, and I love the dappling effect of the shadows over the boats. Terrific sky and excellent DOF. There might be a tiny tilt to the right, but it's insignificant in the vertical orientation.

Andrew

Hi Clark,
Splendid vertical presentation of the beautiful wild lake.
Love how the canoes lead to the clear then turquoise lake.
The rugged snow capped peaks and blue sky is the ideal backdrop for this lovely image.

Clark,
This is a very good photo! Your composition is great with the boats in the foreground adding nice points of interest and the lake and mountains in the back. The boats help to lead the eye into the shot. The lighting and colors are great and the photo has excellent sharpness. The vertical format was an excellent choice for the shot.
