Photographer's Note
No photographic manipulations to get this color, it is real!! For me this was one of the most fascinating places I have ever visited: GRAND PRISMATIC SPRING
GRAND PRISMATIC SPRING
Temperature 147-188°F Dimensions 250x380 feet. Grand Prismatic is the largest hot spring in Yellowstone, and is considered to be the third largest in the world—New Zealand has the two largest springs. Grand Prismatic sits upon a wide, spreading mound where water flows evenly on all sides forming a series of small, stair-step terraces. The Hayden Expedition in 1871 named this spring because of its beautiful coloration, and artist Thomas Moran made water-color sketches depicting its rainbow-like colors. The sketches seemed exaggerations and geologist A.C. Peale returned in 1878 to verify the colors. The colors begin with a deep blue center followed by pale blue. Green algae forms beyond the shallow edge. Outside the scalloped rim a band of yellow fades into orange. Red then marks the outer border. Steam often shrouds the spring which reflects the brilliant colors. Grand Prismatic discharges an estimated 560 gallons per minute

great shot, Shaeri, the colours do indeed seem unreal, and I like a lot how you have included the pale blue mist in the background for added contrast. the curves of the patterns in the foreground nicely lead the eye through the shot, and heat is almost palpable because of the saturated colours. very nice work, I like it a lot.

Hi Shaeri, an interesting shot indeed, especially the black vein-like patterns! I can see the almost dead trees in the background, it mus be the sulphuric discharge thats causing this and the 'eggy' smell? Thanks for sharing...

Hi, Shaeri. Amazing colours and shapes which show that nature can be very surprising. The contrast is very good here. The red and orange tones stand out very well against the blue sky in the background.

WOW! You're really making me quite ready to get to YNP. Wonderful colors! Interesting to see that the polarizer seems not to have done any difference on the blue in the sky.
What did you do to include the slide show in your intro?

This is the clear shot I wished to see, Shaeri, and it is such a lovely view of colors and natural mineral deposits to amke up the waterbed. The spring and vapor is simply great.

Hi Shaeri,
A true paradise for the geologists this area. The terrestrial layer must be extremely fine here. In all the cases of the underground disturbances which offer splendid colors and a kind of abstract painting. A very interesting image, thank you Shaeri.

Hi, Shaeri -
At first I thought this was manipulated, then I remembered this sort of scene from my trips to Yellowstone, and it really is like this!
I think I might have placed the horizon a little lower to get more of the back hills in the shot. But either way, it's a great image!

Colors are great in their untouched, natural form as your earlier shots. They are already creating a splendid scene alone but you very well added vapours and bald ridges. Wonderful, congratulations.

Bonjour Shaeri,

Hi Shaeri
I think this one is one of the most beautiful pictures I have seen from Yellowstone on this website. The strong colors, the beautiful blue haze contrasting so nicely with the orange-yellow-brown tones, are wonderful. The shapes are magnificent as well. It gives the feeling to be right in the middle of a ring of fire, and the blue crown is adding some mystery and magic. A sacred vision. Congratulations!

Marine
