Photographer's Note

One of the consequences of beautiful mountains is the constant threat of snow. You can see that the aspens haven't even changed color yet there is snow on the ground.

This image was taken along the Squaw Peak Trail, close to the area they call rattlesnake pass. Elevation is somewhere close to 7,700'. The aspens changed about a week later to a lovely golden yellow but by then the snow had melted. But it was replaced this weekend with a dusting of fresh snow just in time for the elk hunt.

I quickly snapped this at f/11 with a 1 second exposure (the sun had set behind the mountain to the left of the picture, 'Y' mountain, and night was quickly approaching).
