Photographer's Note

First off, this wasn't intended as a serious photo. I was still getting the feel for my camera and didn't have much experience shooting at night. I left the shot untouched.

This is my former college roommate "Shadow." After listening to a troupe of professional storytellers on this night, we retreated to our camp site at Patrick's Point S.P. and made our first meal over the open fire, wrapping meat and vegetables in foil and letting them cook.

The glow here is actually a moving flashlight--not flaming potatoes--but I like the illusion because Shadow actually is crazy enough to handle/throw/eat flaming potatoes. The illusion creates a memory that didn't really happen, but it quite easily could have. (If anyone has seen the movie "Big Fish," sometimes the tall tales are better than the real story anyway.) While lots of my photos from this trip were more spectacular or impressive for the natural beauty, for me, this one perfectly captures the cameraderie of our great adventure.
