The mouth of the Russian River where it meets with the Pacific Ocean in Jenner, California.

The river rises in Mendocino County in Northern California and meanders along scenic California towns in parallel to Highway 101 and then heads west to flow into the Pacific along a beautiful stretch of Highway 1. This lazy River is the main attraction in the area especially during the summer and early fall. Kayaking, canoeing, swimming and fishing are popular activites as well as walkiing through towering redwoods. There is a Blues Festival in June and Jazz in September.

To me, the attraction was the peacefulness and the stark beauty of the place. No frills here, just nature and well, good food, and plenty of it. If I remember right, it was only about an hour and a half maybe two hours drive from San Francisco - perfect for a day trip away from the city. It was like a vacation away from a vacation.

This photograph was taken from the window of a restaurant called "River's End" - it is literally situated on a sheer cliff at the mouth of the river affording spectacular ocean and river views. Fine dining too.
