Photographer's Note

Freighter hailing from 1943 when she was known (very briefly) as the 'Adirondak' but then christened as the 'Richard J. Reiss'. Somewhere along the line they dropped the 'J', and for 19 years she was the 'Richard Reiss'. She received her current name in 2005.

Drummond Island is part of Chippewa County and was the site of a British fort from 1815 to 1822. Now it is a haven for snowmobilers and is notably the largest fresh water island in the United States. Stone is apparently exported in some quantity!
