Photographer's Note

The usual situation, not only in Spring, with the clouds coming from the North hanging over the Fire Lake but not able to descend to the Azorean Riviera, one tenth of the shores of Sao Miguel island, mainly all the beaches, cliffs and land below 130 meters elevation that is able to see the only uninhabited island with a beach between Europe and USA.

Although unlike in this perspective, Europe is to the right and USA to the left, the only way out also leads directly to the Antarctic, ONE U-turn immediately after the exit.

But there are two differences about that ONE U-turn:
- after exiting the islet, since this time there is no way out of the photo;
- the freedom of choice, either to the left or to the right.

In the evening of 3 August 1492, Columbus departed from Palos de la Frontera, Huelva, Spain, near the portuguese border.
He discovered San Salvador, Bahamas, 12 October 1492.

If we use Google Earth to draw the shortest path for Christopher Columbus's first voyage to the New World, from his departure point to his first landfall, the line crosses this island.
In fact this is the only island that line touches and this is the last land it crosses before the New World.
