Colour Chicks!, a photo from Tamil Nadu, South

Just before every monsoon, most Indian markets have atleast one seller who sells thousands of these stunning coloured chicks. Any 10 for a dollar, for 10 day-old chicks of such striking colours may look and sound tempting - but it is when the seller stuffs 10 of these harmless little guys into a tiny plastic bag and hands it over to you... is when it makes you realize you should have never bought them in the first place! While this image looks fake, it actually isn't editted at all. I for one, don't support this trade of colouring week-old chickens in strong dyes. They just dont survive beyond a few weeks. And even if they do, they look terrible after half the dye has disappeared. More like Teenage Mutant Ninja Chickens!

They look adorable,
but I totally agree with you.
Animal cruelty comes in many
versions... the problem is that
as long as there is demand, supply
will provide. Too sad.

Hi Niju,
These tiny creatures with their bright colours make for a vivid photograph, and you have really good clarity here. But in a way as you say it is sad too with the fate of the little chickens in the end.

Unlucky yellow chick, uncolored. It's a great idea to show us this tradition and it's a great idea to create this repetition for the texture. Personnaly I like.
