The coast of California is abundant in pretty towns with charm and character. Many of them are world famous like Malibu Beach. Santa Monica is truly a unique coastal town. You can write a long list of both advantages and disadvantages of this place. The beach is broad and sandy although usually crowded in the season. It stretches for few kilometres south to the Venice Beach and north with some rocky breaks to Malibu Beach. Yes the Baywatch series was filmed also somewhere between Venice and Santa Monica. Pier in Santa Monica is known to everybody from numerous movies which were filmed here, to give you an example Mr. Bean enjoyed this pier attractions while visiting LA in the Ultimate Disaster Movie. The pier stretches across and over the famous PCH (Pacific Coast Highway), called also the Highway #1 which winds along the whole spectacular coast of California, this pier leads us to the Palisades Park, which is located on a hill above the beach and provides a fantastic overlook for the Pacific Ocean. Palisades Park is not always a pleasant place for a walk because of numerous homeless people sleeping there. The reason for that is that free lunches are given away in this area and they attract many homeless people. California in general is overpopulated with homeless: many other states used to purchase one way tickets to California for their homeless thus getting rid of them, and who wouldn’t like to move here? In spite of some strange scenes which you may encounter there, this place is completely safe even at the night time. Streets which are parallel to the PCH are numbered from 1 and on the third one there is a fantastic Third Street Promenade with incredible atmosphere day and night. Plenty of performers, boutiques, bookstores, restaurants open till the very late. Santa Monica has also fantastic public transportation.

This picture was taken from the Palisades Park in Santa Monica. The stairs which you see here are connecting the Palisades Park (in the right) with a bridge (not visible here) which takes you above the PCH straight to the beach. Normally on the horizon you should see the hills of Santa Monica Mountains with the Malibu Beach in front of them but the visibility on that day was not that great.
