Summer in the City

As you could see in my previous photos in the Portland series, the weather was fantastic, so of course the water of the Willamette River attracted quite a few people, even though there are only a few bathing opportunities along the river. Here is one though, right next to the large bridges that carry Interstate-5, which created an interesting contrast.

The photo was taken from Hawthorne Bridge and shows three other bridges: Marquam Bridge, the busiest bridge in Oregon, carrying the Interstate-5 across the Willamette River, and behind it Tilikum Crossing, a cable-stayed bridge, opened in 2015 and behind that one the Ross Island Bridge, a cantilever truss bridge from 1926.

Lep pogled i trenutak, dobar tekst ...
Interesantan i lepa konstrukcija mosta, lep mol na vodi.
Lepo pokazano sa fotografijom u radionici, dobro uhvacen trenutak.

Bonjour, cher Lars,
L'on admire le pont à deux niveaux, mais l'oeil est surtout attiré par les jeunes qui ont trouvé une place de choix sur le ponton ! une petite plage privée bien agréable.

People sunbathing in a spot like that is a little bizarre, especially below all the elevated roadways. A great collection of layers on the right.

Hello Lars, Again a great joy for the bridges fans. Nice place on this platform to have a view of the three bridges. Spectacular composition. I wonder if it is possible to capture four bridges (including the one you were staying on).

Hej Lars,
Det finns faktiskt en liknande plats på Södermalm, där man kan kombinera solbadare med åtminstone två broar, men okej, Portland är lite mäktigare, och det går inte att hitta en lika fin fotovinkel på Södermalm. Detta är en väldigt bra bild för kombinationen av avkopplande vardagsliv, arkitektur, trafik och natur. Det fina vädret bjöd på perfekt ljus och färger.

Hello Lars,

I didn't expect this!
I wasn't sure what you had photographed, on the thumbnail, and what a surprise, full size!
The bridge, full of speeding traffic, seems like a most unlikely setting for a spot of quiet sunbathing!
However, your photograph clearly captures the moment, showing a vivid contrast between the those at the bottom of the scene and those way up, on high!

That's family picnic down below at the third- a happy relaxing spot you found by the river. It's smartly framed with the double-decker bridge lends as a fine eye-stopper, clean & crispiness shot with excellent colour, tones and overall contrast. A wonderful setting and feel of depth from where this was taken! A pleasure to view. Congrats

Il y a beaucoup de choses à voir dans cette jolie composition. Un autoroute à étages ainsi qu'un pont qui se cache derrière et des gens sur le quai qui profitent du beau temps.

The possibility of swimming in the river shows that the water is clean and not too cold, an interesting scene in such a big city, very well captured with two bridges in the BG

The 2 bridges looming over the river provide interesting focal points. The fg pier with its canoes and sunbathers forms an x where it crosses the riverbank and continues uphill as a ramp. Tfs!

Lars, the bridge has two storeys for cars and trucks. It is crossing the Willamette where a wooden platform was created. Small boats moored here can be used to navigate on the river. Perfect sharpness, excellent light.

Zo dan ben ik weer even bij.
Deze foto laat wel mooi verschillende aspecten van Portland zien. De indrukwekkende infrastructuur van wegen en bruggen maar ook de ontspanning langs de rivier.

Deux hauteurs sur ce pont quelle image et compo quel captage superbe avec la circulation une sacrée construction et en dessous de immenses piliers ces personnes sur le ponton qui profitent du soleil ces bateaux blancs ce immense pieux quelle vue

I have gone over this bridge a thousand plus times, but this is the first view I have seen of the dock below and those who take in the sun. Looks like a great fishing spot. It should have been a good spot in late July. You have taken a very nice clear photo.

this photo has literally so many levels :)
Two bridges and one little pier with people enjoying the sunbath.
There is a lovely contrast between the people relaxing on the pier and the cars stuck in traffic on the way to do the hard work.

Hello, Lars!

Curious place to be used as the beach by these people! They are taking a sun bath but with a completely different view from a usual beach, with all these cars passing in front of them! You captured the whole scene from a very nice POV to show that! Very nice composition!

Hello Lars, an excellent point of view that shows the different styles of bridges. The Marquam Bridge with its' two tiers and the moving traffic is fascinating.
I like the inclusion of the jetty with all the people sunbathing.
Lovely sharp shot with natural colours in the bright sunshine.

The giant two-decks bridge is superbly scaled by the people on the small pier bellow, have a sun-bath on a bright summer day.

A different and really curious image, with that bridge with two levels, through which cars circulate.
A magnificent color that gives the image a lot of richness.

I was in the rural zone today and even protecting my skin it was damaged by the sun.I ever guess these images of people taking sunbath in parks something curious. haha.
amazing contrast of the bridges and the cars with the deck filled with people.

Een minder alledaags zicht: zonnen en watersporten dichtbij een uiterst drukke autoweg.
Je koos voor deze foto een heel geschikte titel.
Ook in de stad moet je van de mogelijkheden gebruik maken om van de zomer te genieten.
Prachtige zomerse kleuren.
