Photographer's Note

Palolem Beach is located at the extreme southern end of Goa near the market town of Chaudi.

This photo was taken in November 1990 and has been scanned from the original negative. Back then the beach and village were totally untouched by major tourism. From what I see of this place from more recent TE photos, it looks totally different and very much spoiled - by comparison to the solitude that I experienced over 3 visits to Goa in 1989, 90 and 92.

The beach is known locally as "Paradise Beach" and for very good reason! It is about one mile long and crescent-shaped - the whole beach can be viewed from either end. Both ends of the beach consist of rocks jutting out into the sea. The depth of the sea increases gradually, it being shallowest at the northern ends of the beach, making it safe for average swimmers, and the currents are not fast.

The beach is featured as the Indian residence of Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) in the film The Bourne Supremacy (2004).
