Photographer's Note

It has actually been taken in December, but central coastal China is nowhere near as cold as Manchuria, with a short winter from very late December to early February. Taken at the Confucian Temple in Nanjing, the former southern capital of China before it was moved to Beijing (north capital). The tree trunks are painted white with an embedded insecticide to prevent beetle larvae weakening the trees during storms.
