Moated castle Huelshoff

This is the moated castle Hülshoff in the region called Münsterland (please see map view right hand), west of the city Münster.
A castle here already was mentioned in 11th century. The today's Renaissance manor house was built by Heinrich I von Droste-Hülshoff from 1540 to 1545. In 16th and 17th century the castle was remodeled and enlarged in baroque style and two towers were added. In 19th century the chapel (please see workshop photos) was attached.
The worth-visiting castle is surrounded by a wonderful park - in parts near to nature. A walk there is a real pleasure with again and again changing sights of the castle. There's also a homey restaurant in the vaulted cellar.

Here baroness Annette von Droste-Hülshoff was born on Jan. 12th, 1797. She spent her childhood and youth here. Annette von Droste-Hülshoff surely is the most important German poetess and you can read more about her HERE.

She wrote aubout this castle (in German):

„Du Vaterhaus mit deinen Thürmen,
Vom stillen Weiher eingewiegt,
Wo ich in meines Lebens Stürmen
So oft erlegen und gesiegt, –
Ihr breiten laubgewölbten Hallen,
Wo ewig meine Seufzer wallen
Und meines Fußes Spuren stehen.“

You can see the castle from other points of view in the workshop. A panorama you can see HERE.
