Photographer's Note

There's a folk dance festival in Merida every night, but this time I caught one on a Sunday afternoon. This was taken during one of the performances in mid dance. I was sitting in the bleachers with my long zoom lens on a tripod. Luckily the light was bright enough to use a fast shutter speed (1/500). I shot a whole roll of film and usually show it as a sequence. But for a single image, this is my favourite. The girl's dress is the hand-embroidered huipil of the region.

I did a little bit of Photoshop on this, to darken the background and brighten the girl's eyes. But the unretouched slide looks very good, too.
