Photographer's Note
As you can see from this image (taken back in December during the TrekEarth Meet in Vancouver), Coal Harbour is situated right next to the downtown core of Vancouver, and sandwiched in by Stanley Park to the North.
The area used to be very industrial- but in recent years it's become one of the premier residential areas of Vancouver. I can only imagine the fabulous views from the condo's in the backdrop- there really is no wonder the area has become so popular.
I hope you like the shot,
- Dan

Hi Dan,
The place is indeed adequate for a meeting TE and beautiful pictures too.
Very nice perspective of the bulding and good reflection of the boat on water.
Good light and good framing too, nice composition..!
Best regards,

Hello Dan,
Your photo probably isn't everyone's idea of a classic "pretty" photograph but I think that you have a very striking image here. Your composition is outstanding! I love the way that the hard precise architectural lines of the buildings are reflected on the water. The movement of water is just right. It softens and distorts the straight lines perfectly. I liked the fact that you didn't add a warming filter in PS to make it more pleasing. You maintained the cool tones for a reason. This would make a great magazine documentary photo to go with your narrative.
Well done!

Hi Dan - well this looks familiar! This shot does a great job of showing how the buildings seem to crowd in on each other. I like that pier in the foreground too, which mades a great reflection. The light is a bit flat and grey, but there is nothing you could do about that. Well done!

Hi Dan, a new take on this spot of Van city, like how you've gotten really up close and personal with the condo skyline, whereas most shots (including mine here) are less closeup. The structure centrally placed gives this a nice "docking point" with the bridges on both sides balancing out the scene and the ominous buildings in the back giving it depth.

Hi Dan. I definitely went through that area when I was there. The sky was a little cruddy but you didn't let that hold you back. I'm not sure but that shiny gold building in the middle looks familiar and was wondering if it was this picture. tfs Dan.

Well well Dan its nice to see some of the photos you took from this Trek meet. I do like the contrast between the wharf building and the high rises behind. Excellent composition Dan. It shows the landscape in Vancouver is changing dramatically with all the influx of construction workers from across the country. I wonder how different this waterfront will look in three years before 2010 Winter Olympics. Good work Dan!

Hi Dan,
Impressive skyline on this photo, I like the way you have composed the shot with just water in the front. All the blueish tones give a cool feel to this image.
Best regards,
Paul.

This is a very nice image Dan. The saturation of buildings is excellent. I take it as most of them are condos. The marina give an idea that the city is not just a concrete jungle but also a place where some people can relax and enjoy more. Good composition...I will be posting a similar picture next. I hope it is half as good as yours.

Dan,
Aha! I thought somebody might slip another TE Vancouver meet photo in here! Nice foreground with reflection. This shot makes Vancouver, or at least this part of it, look like a collection of buildings huddling in the cold for warmth, like Emperor Penguins on the Antarctic ice.
Cheers,
Andrew.

Hi Dan. Great photo. The cityscape makes a great backdrop for the marina and it’s boats. Excellent detail and composition. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Dan,
The square format really suits this one. Your 5d has captured all the varying blue and grey tones of that morning, with the reflections providing an effective and artistic foreground. The flag on the right provides that extra hue to give some zip to the otherwise gray and blue scape. Well captured, Dan. I am off to France and the UK next week and am hoping the weather holds...Don't work too hard. Cheers.

Hello Danny,
At first glance I was tempted to think " Too many objects in this one " but looking better I decided they just complete each other both on the tones and the shapes. -Very very interesting shot -- Friendly yours - Izzet
