Photographer's Note
Okay, I am posting this as a test of the panorama function of the TE site. I had a tough time figuring out how people were able to post a large, second picture with these wide aspect ratio shots, so this is me giving it a try.
I took this shot on the Vancouver TE meet by Stanley Park on Sunday morning. I was using the only camera I currently have, an Olympus point and shoot, and was therefore unable to use ND grads, like the others had, and the higher latitude of the SLR cameras. So, I am having a good time looking at the pictures they post and comparing highlight and shadow detail, and sharpness, and convincing myself that it is time to get back into the SLR world. This time without the expense of film. Also, if I can get the large version to work, you will see the resolution limits of a (cropped and resized) 8MP point and shoot.
Oh, right, and it was good meeting some fellow photographers, too. :)

Hi Andrew - Great shot of the harbour and the convention centre. The long horizontal frame is perfect for this subject. I like the way the bright sky silhoettes the interesting shape of the building. Great work!

Good Evening Andrew. Well low and behold I decided to post a panorama too. I like the setting here where the Canada Place sails and waterfront details combined to make a lovely setting. I would however remove the high rise on the right in this frame. It is distracting to the rest of the scene.
Now as to the details seen in the larger version, I think I can offer a few posting tips. For one perhaps the largest hinderance in posting a pan shot wider than 2500 pixels is that the resulting details are severely effected by 400KB posting restrictions. That is why in my latest posting the larger photo is just over 2000 wide and under 800 tall. Photoshop Save for Web certainly helps in such instances too.
I think there is a reason why your photo lacks the necessary details for a 8 million pixel camera. Did you stitch a few photos together here, or simply crop one photo for this pan? And one final question. When you do decide to buy into the DSLR realm, will it be a Nikon or a Canon? You know how many of us outnumbered Alvin Brown at the TE Meeting.

Hello Andrew,
Amazing shot of the Canada Place with the glow of the sunrise behind it! The seagulls flying around are a nice touch. Excellent composition with great details and beautiful colours! Great work, Andrew!
Greetings,
Ann

Hey Andrew, great shot. I really like the crop and colours. Just goes to show you the photographer is much more important than the equipment :) Take care, Don. P.S. The birds are a perfect touch!

Hi Andrew,
Well composed in the panorama format, with a good proportion of water in the foreground. I might have cropped the edge of the building on the right, as it interferes with the balance and border effect. The exposure level seems just right, with even the geese seen flying over the yachts. Have a joyous Christmas and happy holiday season, Andrew. Hope to see you at a TE meet next year - with a new camera!
John
