Photographer's Note

Vancouver's Coal Harbour, as seen from the muddy low tide near the Stanley Park Seawall.

This was taken during the Vancouver TE meeting, organized by Dan Walsh. A great time was had by all, despite the near freezing temperature, because we got a rare break in the weather. Lately we have been getting hit by storm after storm, and this was the only non-rainy day in a week, and looking at the forecast it will be rainy for another week after this. We sure got lucky with the weather, especially considering this date was picked many weeks ago.

The Vancouver gang may not be a large as some of the European TE meetings, but there are some die hard members out here, and it was a great chance to finally meet some of those people I had been exchanging messages with for so long. Dan was quite noticeable, considering he brought a small suitcase full of camera gear, with wheels that rumbled to warn everyone of his approach (isn't that right, Thunder Dan!). Paul (PJE) was busy comparing equipment with everyone (when he wasn't ranting!) and was generally the life of the party. Don (vesalius) kept saying how he really wasn't in our league photographically, while secretly taking pictures that will probably put us all to shame. Andrew (Boots) kept us fascinated with stories from the movie industry, in which he works, and asking lots of questions about TE. The mysterious John (who persists in not posting a photo of himself) turned out to be the biggest gentleman around and very knowledgable and helpful as well. As the person who had the most experience shooting in the area, I was supposed to be advising where we should go next - sorry if I messed up guys, but I think we got some great shots anyways.

This was a very high contrast scene that I tried to tame with a 2 Stop ND filter, and then some fancy processing to knock down the highlights and bring up the shadows.

It was great meeting everyone and I'm looking forward to seeing the shots!
