Photographer's Note
Good Evening Trekers. I usually pay no attention to how many photos I post, until someone warned me that I was close to posting 500 Canadian photos. This 500th is dedicated to Richard Tadday. I have been very impressed with the quality of his wave captures, and when I took this snowdrift photo it reminded me of Richard's wave creations. So Richard this one's for you bud. Up here in Canada the winter brings waves of snow, that almost look as wonderful as your best wave shot. Well...almost, but this wave of snow has a special appeal of purity to it. And I do hope you manage to make it up here this summer Richard. Enjoy!

Happy 500th Canadian Paul!
Very well spotted and referred to as a wave- because that's exactly what it looks like. Excellent exposure and nice shading. Cool lines- well done.

This definitely looks like a wave, but I don't know how you can see things like this because I never do. The light is at the perfect angle in this to show the curves of the snow drift and the close up view has incredible detail. Beautiful!

Congratulations!!!!!
I love ocean waves, but if i see too many 'snow waves' waves like yours i might try going to snowy areas. This is simply gorgeous, the sparkling really is gorgeous. Wonderful details and at a quick glance one of the curves remeninds me of a dolphin's profile.
Congratulations.

I also can't see shapes like this so hats off for that, too bad the shot is underexposed by about 2 stops, white snow looks nicer. Please see my workshop.

Paul this truly resembles a wave, a cold one. Very nice capture of this natural feature. It also remind me of seracs hanging high above glaciers. Good work and TFS.

Hi Paul,
Truely great 500th posting! Looking at the preview I guess it to be a sand dune or something ... and the I discovered your lovely ice-wave! Well composed detail shot, with great DOF and a lovely warm light. TFS, Mike

Hello, Paul--
Nice work here, i like how you were able to take your recent work in the snow to a new small-scale level, and you really did evoke the wave feeling very well. The composition is nicely balanced, i like the gradation from dark at top to light at bottom.
Thanks!

For your 500th, a beautiful one, Paul ! A marvelous texture, so sharp and soft, with a perfect exposure. The wave emerges nicely from the shadows to the high light. Congratulations

Waves of snow! what a beautiful idea, a different vision. The shape is so round, and ander the "wave" there is empty space! Very well done.
Compliments for your 500!!

Very good one. Fine light reveal structure of snow and make it sparkle. You made a good choice with little underexposure to avoid to much white, cause I think this look much better then pure white.

A gorgeous capture with a lovely range of tone. You have a great eye to spot the 'wave' formation, and well done for capturing it so perfectly.

Hey Paul.
Good eye, there is definately a correlation. The tones in your picture are remarkable...as is the texture. Grainy, ecah crystal acting as its own light. Yet, the shot is very smooth. I know it's hard to see such a simple scene and turn it into a great shot.
Regards,
Chris.
Just looked at workshop...but, then it is some white snow. It doesn't have the character the original has. I don't mind the warmth coming from the slight yellow cast.

Hello Paul -
Snow, so difficult to capture and render properly, you should be giving lessons on the technique from the quality of this image. The texture of the snow is captured to perfection and the shadows in this image are prefect with detail in all of the appropriate places. No OE'ed highlights, no UE'ed shadows, and the snow is white w/o a color cast. Excellent image!!
Thank you for sharing

Hi Paul,
I'm not posting at the moment, so don't waste your smilies on me, but it doesn't stop me browsing. Good play with light and shadow and it shows some fine lines. The texture in the shot almost looks like granulated sugar! (simplistic I know!) Congratulation on the 500th Canadian and I'll look forward to many more posts over the years.

Hi Paul,
An impressive artistic presentation, with very fine lighting and shadow effects. Above all, the shot is all about texture, and encrusted snow and water lend themselves to amazing shapes and permutations which you have used to good advantage. Indeed the scene resembles wave action. This is first rate work, Paul. I am adding this to my favourites list. Have a great weekend.

A bit late maybe, but congratulations on that epic feat, Paul.
The shapes of the snow are marvellously reminiscent of the sea, and the detail is excellent. The light and shade are superb, and I actually like that dark area top left which Peter has lightened - it conveys a sense of gloom and mystery. The colour of the snow brings the tonality close to b/w and I think it looks good.

Andrew

Hello Paul,
Beautiful snow detail. Looks as if we'll have no snow in Istanbul this winter. Your pictures shows the tiny sh,ining crystals of the snow and this is where the beauty is. Best regards - Izzet
