Chris: You are also right: I had fought with myself over whether or not to include the concrete wall to the north and included it for context. But it had no artistic merit: but should I also crop a little more from the top and give up the bit of angled ledge?
Backstory on the original:
I went into downtown Toronto last weekend in search of gargoyles to add to my collection and so begins a short series for my gallery.
In architecture, gargoyles (from the French gargouille, originally the throat or gullet, cf. Latin gurgulio, gula, and similar words derived from root gar, to swallow, the word representing the gurgling sound of water) are the carved terminations to spouts which convey water away from the sides of buildings. However chimeras, which do not work as waterspouts and serve only ornamental or artistic functions, are also popularly referred to as gargoyles.
This first one shows one of the reasons I am running about even in bitter cold to record them. Rain, cold weather and pollution erode these poor fellows all too quickly and this one (located about 4 storeys up on one of Toronto's oldest city buildings) has already lost his head over the problem.
