Photographer's Note

a few hours ago. . . . .

the Civilization Choir of Antakya has been formed with the start of the local tourism festival in 2007 and was registered as an association in 2008. The choir consists of adherents to three local monotheistic faiths representing various professionals including priests, imams, nuns, jewelers, teachers, students, retirees, and other professionals. By sharing some extant local beautiful values, the choir aims to open new horizons and draw humanity closer to beauty and truth, and by using music’s universal language it strives to act as a bridge between civilizations. By doing so, the choir hopes to contribute to the promotion of our city, Antakya (Antioch), in particular and Turkey in general. Costumes of the choir have been designed by Ms. Bahar Korcan and made of silk produced locally in Harbiye (the ancient city of Daphne). “We are proud of our mutual respect and tolerance which is the product of centuries old coexistence of diverse cultures and hold that up as an example to the whole world. Antioch is one of few cities in the world which adopted the culture of tolerance as a lifestyle and sustained it for centuries. That is Antakya is the capital of tolerance…”
