roof repair at sunset, a photo from Diyarbakir, Southern East Anatolia

Photographer's Note

During our last trip to Diyarbakir, The Great Mosque (Ulucami) was of course a favorite subject. Not only with its's architecture but with all people around, people in prayers. Actually the roof was being repaired and new tiles were drawn up with a makeshift elevator, and distributed all over. These young boys kept working until it was dark, and I caught a scene just after sunset.

What could be an ordinary scene here looks extraordinary. Is important remember that our eyes make different the same reality for everyone of us.

Bonjour, Izzet. De splendides silhouettes et une photo qui pourrait appartenir à une autre époque car elle ne laisse apparaître aucun signe de modernité. Excellente composition avec le bord du toit qui part en diagonale et les silhouettes qui se détachent sur ce magnifique ciel.

Fantastic shot! The silhoettes of the men against the sky is very dramatic, and I really like tha steep angle of the roof too, which also adds to the dramatic appearance. One thing that works very well here is the repetition of the shape of the men, reinforcing the look. Very beautiful!

Cela touche à la perfection, en effet c'est une composition ou aucun des personnages est imbriqué dans un autre ou le touche.. Donc les lignes sont pures.
Les personnages sont dirigés dans le même sens et il y a une histoire. J'aime aussi le contraste du noir pur à un ciel joliment coloré.
UNE GRANDE PHOTO, créative.

Réparer un toit au soleil couchant, c'est une activité finalement poétique et magnifique. C'est superbe et ces ombres sont fascinantes. La lumière est magnifique et le cadrage parfait.

From the thumbnails the silhouetted workers looked like puppets to me, especially the man on the left side with the rope next to him. They stand out nicely against the colored sky. Well done...

Très joli silhouettage sur un ciel splendide.. j'apprécie la diagonale.
Mais j'espère qu'ils ne travaillent pas comme la photo le suggère (un pour travailler, un deuxième pour regarder, et un troisième pour controler) car sinon la réfection du toit risque de prendre un sacré bout de temps!

These silhouettes look so rigid that they seem more like statues, especially the 2 standing on the right. The angle of the roof makes it even more graphic. The sky contrasts beautifully and adds a real touch to the scene.
