Photographer's Note
This is the Krak des Chevaliers (Qalat al-Husn), one of the world's best preserved medieval fortresses, dating back to the 12th century. It was one of the strongholds of the crusaders in the 13th century, before it was captured by the Arabs. Since 2006 it is classified as a world heritage by the UNESCO.
Krak des Chevaliers is situated in western Syria, about 65 km west of the city of Homs, just north of the Lebanese border.
This picture from 1995 was scanned from a Kodachrome slide.

Hej Gert,
This photo makes me think of king Richard I of England, was he ever here? Maybe even Arn was here too! In any case, a very fine picture with very good colours, a very good scan!

Hallo Gert!
Even as a ruin still an impressive building. What a view - especially for aggressors. The whole castle gives the impression of strength and fortification. Your point of view here shows this in a skillful way...
Greetings from cold but sunny Germany - and all the best to you and yours for the new year!

Hej Gert,
it's a skilfully chosen composition as well as a very good POV, so the old fortress looks absolutely timeless, and the scene is filled with "historical" mood! Excellent perspective, beautiful sunny day!
I wonder what those old crusaders saw when they were approaching the fortress? Of course the landscape was not exactly the same, but.... :)
I like the contrasts and deep shadows: they create depth and make the fortress look very real, not like a "flat" glossy digital object! I very much like the warm colours which look very natural. In any case this is the kind of photo which can as well be an excellent painting :)
Best regards,
Elena

Hello Gert, You are now an expert at reproducing digital images from scanned slides, this is a perfect example the quality is very good & the subject very interesting. I think Steve posted one not long ago but from a different POV.
Well done & an image worth seeing.

Hi Gert,
I don't follow the news recently but I hope this structure still exists. I have heard about it already before. It seems quite impressive. It is quite a recent photo for your standards :) Very attractive POV, and great quality scan!
