Al Alam Palace, a photo from Masqat, North

Photographer's Note

Certainly not the largest royal palace of the Sultan, but without doubt the most curious for architecture and colors. In the WS you can see an opposite view of the large square that houses it.
The Al Alam Palace is the ceremonial palace of Sultan Qaboos of Oman located in Old Muscat.
"Al Alam" means "The Flag" in Arabic.The palace, one of six royal residences of the ruling monarch, Sultan Qaboos,has a history of over 200 years, built by Imam Sultan bin Ahmed the 7th direct grandfather of the current Sultan. The existing palace, which has a facade of gold and blue, was rebuilt as a royal residence in 1972.The inner grounds of the palace remain off-limits but visitors are permitted to stop near the gates and take photographs.Al Alam Palace is surrounded by the Mirani and Jalali Forts built in the 16th century by the Portuguese.
The Palace is used for official functions and receiving distinguished visitors and in January 2012, the Sultan received Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands at Al Alam Palace during her state visit to Oman.

Non sicuramente il piu grande palazzo reale del Sultano, ma senza dubbio il piu curioso per architettura e colori. Nel WS potete vedere una vista opposta della larga piazza che lo ospita.
"Al Alam" significa "La bandiera" in arabo.Il palazzo, Sultan Qaboos, una delle sei residenze reali del monarca regnante,ha una storia di oltre 200 anni, costruita dall'Imam Sultan bin Ahmed il settimo nonno diretto dell'attuale Sultan. Il palazzo esistente, che ha una facciata d'oro e blu, è stato ricostruito come residenza reale nel 1972. I motivi interni del palazzo rimangono off limits ma ai visitatori è permesso fermarsi vicino ai cancelli e scattare fotografie.Alam Palace è circondato dai Mirani e dai Forti di Jalali costruiti nel XVI secolo dai portoghesi.
Il Palazzo è utilizzato per le funzioni ufficiali e per ricevere visitatori illustri e nel gennaio 2012 il Sultano ha ricevuto la Regina Beatrice dei Paesi Bassi ad Alam Palace durante la sua visita in Oman.

This palace still looks huge. It has some remarkable architectural styles and the yellow and blue columns stand out as well. I really like the symmetry, also nicely enhanced by the double row of streetlamps.

Hello Luciano,
Perhaps not the most beautiful palace I have seen, even if this photo probably only shows a small part at the entrance. But the strangely shaped pillars in blue and yellow certainly make it one of the most original palaces i have seen. The photo is as usual crisp and clear and with as good symmetry as the architecture permitted. The WS shows that it is located at a very large square which I wouldn't like to cross at the height of summer.

Beautiful little palace. It has quite unique design and charming colors.
Nice symmetrical composition which is so appropriate here to emphasize the elegance of this structure.

A composition with excellent symmetry and sharp details. The colours of the building are very attractive and the intricate decorations are revealed in excellent detail. The flowers on the walls on both sides are lovely details. The WS picture is another superb wide angle shot with a most original composition.

The photo in the WS seems to me more what I would expect to find in this beautiful country.

the style of architecture is modern and has interesting shapes, it is unusual and colorful, but there isn't a cheeky effect, maybe because the colors used.anyway a nice view and nice WS too.

Luciano, this is a luxurious palace built according to the Islamic architecture. The entrance looks impressive, the gate is imposant. Oman national flag is placed on the roof. Perfect framing, sharp shot.

La simmetria assoluta che hai voluto dare a questa immagine, attenuata solo dalla bandiera che sventola verso sinistra e dal cancelletto di destra aperto, permette di cogliere il maggior numero possibile di dettagli dell'edificio, dalle linee molto diverse dall'architettura delle nostre residenze reali, recando un'immagine meno austera e più accogliente (cannoni a parte). The space is no problem for the sultan, what a barbarity of the square, perfect to cross at noon ... ... the palace's facade surprises with its originality and color and when I read that the golden columns are lined with gold, I hallucinate. ...
