Photographer's Note

I had already posted this butterfly as the WS of the oasis in which I had found it, but someone pointed out to me that it would certainly have deserved the place of the main photo in the gallery. So I convinced myself to repost it, also because most of the members don't watch WS because of the short time available, and also because the photos of the insects are always very successful. The species that I show you, found in the oasis of Wadi Bani Khalid, is a Coeliades anchises, the one-pip policeman, is a butterfly of the family Hesperiidae. It is found in eastern KwaZulu-Natal, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, from Mozambique to Somalia, and in Ethiopia and Oman.
The wingspan is 55–70 mm for males and 65–72 mm for females. Adults are on the wing from October to March in southern Africa.
The larvae feed on Triaspis glaucophylla, Dregea angolensis, Marsdenia angolensis, Acridocarpus, Tristellateia and Ficus species.
