Photographer's Note
Hidden high up in the hills, is one of the legendary monuments of Petra. The spectacular Monastery (also known locally as Al-Deir) is similar in design to the Treasury, but far larger. Built in the 3rd century BC as a Nabataean tomb, possibly for King Obodas I, the Monastery gets its name from the crosses that are carved on the inside walls suggesting that the building was used as a Church during Byzantine times.
The path to the Monastery is comprised of approximately 800 rock-cut steps and takes about 45 minutes to hike. Alternatively, one can hire a donkey (with a guide) to make the trip.

Hi Michael,
great picture of that extraordinary facade. I unfortunately had not have enough time to see it during my visit at Petra this year. I like the panoramic format of your picture. Also the colors are well saturated. Maybe it would be better to put the main subject not directly into the centre. TFS.
Kind regards,
Roland
