Photographer's Note

The door in the southern entrance to the Castle at Azraq is made from Basalt and swings on pivots at the top and bottom (with a push!). The gentlemen is the caretaker. Given that this was taken in 1990 and he wasn't young then, I doubt that he is still there. The castle dates back to the 13th century. Its only recent use - apart from tourism - was by Lawrence of Arabia, who used it to sit out a winter during WW1.
