Just returned from a one long day trip to the Judean-Desert and Jordan-southern-valley monasteries. There are more than a dozen monasteries around this region, both in Israel and some within the Kingdom of Jordan.

It is a wide area only 80km from home but a whole different landscape and adventure.
Will show some 30 or more photos from this trip where many highlights in this tour, one is the baptise site of Quasr-al-Yahud.
It is mostly sacred to Orthodox church worshipers, according to tradition beside the Jordan River, (Bethany-beyond-the-Jordan) where Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist.

According to other belief Joshua and Israelis crossed the river here from Moav Kingdom in 1280BC, entered the Israel land and conquered Jericho.

On wet winter season water level on the Jordan River can rise by 3m +/- higher.

The other side of the border is the Kingdom of Jordan, where a single Jordanian soldier and one family/tourists were on the site.

Location is at 31.83697, 35.5463 on the map.
This picture was taken with my cell-phone.
