Walking through the narrow and labyrinthine lanes of the old part of this city, takes us into the past...

Yazd has a history of over 3,000 years, dating back to the time of the Median empire, when it was known as Ysatis (or Issatis). Because of generations of adaptations to its desert surroundings, Yazd is an architecturally unique city.

Yazd has some of the finest examples of traditional desert Persian residential architecture and is also one of the largest cities built almost entirely out of adobe. Because of its climate, it has one of the largest networks of Qanats in the world.

It is also known in Iran for the high quality of its handicrafts, especially silk weaving, and its sweet shops.

It was visited by Marco Polo in 1272, who remarked on the city's fine silk-weaving industry.

Wonderful presentation of this desert architecture with its walls, arches and pavement in the same colour.
From a dark gallery we get a great view of a very nice set of successive arches.

Great shot, I love it. The different shade of brown and earth tone. the silhouette of the two people adds so much to the scene. Great POV that put me right in the middle of alley. It makes me feel like being there.

Wonderful repetation of the arches & fine exposure to show us the details of the pathway. The picture becomes all the more beautiful with the presence of the two silhouetted people, though small, but finely balanced on either side of the arch. Wonderful work!
