Photographer's Note
Todays more visited cathedrals in the UK are the railway terminii.
Squeaky clean with an almost a religious fanaticism these are a melting pot of people from around the world.
Infact they are the common world religion everyone dreams of!!
Initially, the railways catered mainly for the middle classes, but from the 1860s Parliament stipulated that railway companies must run special cheap workmen’s trains to ensure that the working classes could relocate from the old central slums to new and affordable housing being built up particularly to London’s north-east and east around Tottenham, Poplar, and West Ham. The ability of the working classes to travel considerable distances to work was also enhanced from about 1860 by horse-drawn trams.
The greatest revolution lay in the underground railway, beginning in the 1860s with the Metropolitan Line between Paddington and Farringdon, and followed by the Circle and District lines. Initially these were shallow tunnels built on a “cut-and-cover system”, with carriages hauled by steam locomotives. It was only with the coming of efficient electric traction in the 1890s that a deep tube system became feasible—the Northern and Central lines were constructed first, and then, in the 20th century, the Piccadilly Line followed. Underground railways proved crucial in getting commuters and shoppers rapidly into the very heart of London without further contributing to the traffic jams that had become all too common.
This picture tribute to mechanical engineering and its marriage with art.
However I must add...I missed the smells and the beggars that form a sub culture of every Indian railway platform !!!
You can take the man out of India but you can't take India out of this man !

Yes, Paddington is rather special. Mainly good handling of light, capture the very important detail in the roof, though the ends get a bit lost in the bright daylight, a little PP there might have been worth it. Nice shot.

You just have to love those train stations...
Very good composition, allowing us a broad view of the place. I do agree with your last comment as well - no matter where we are we'll always look for familiar sights and smells that will make us feel at home...

Framing is particularly interesting with this displacement on the right corner, a good idea, this environment on the photograph is really very good, well considering.

Very nice photograph with a deep DOF and an interesting repetitive pattern on the train station roof. Very well seen.

To be honest with you I’m not creasy about the train BUT I LOVE the roof
Just perfect
The angel you took the whole train station is very good and is covering the whole station it’s a good capture of a moment at the train station.
Nicely done.

Great shot. Very crisp lines. Very nice lighting. I love the colors of the train and the stops. And there is a great shine to all the surfaces. Sparkling and clean as you write. And I really like the perspective here. All the lines of the canopy really give it strength. Very nicely composed and very good note. Great job.
