Photographer's Note
I have uploaded this as I heard yesterday, and it has yet to be confirmed, that Ocean Beach will not be opened again and that it has in fact been sold to a supermarket chain. This, if it is true, is another nail in the coffin for the leisure industry as we head abroad for our holidays.
Funnily enough, on the radio this week it said that the weather in the UK, in our lifetime, will be more like the med. The med, like Greece and southern Spain, will be too hot during the summer. But they will get a boost with winter holidays. Well, don't hold your breath. They can't even predict the weather for tomorrow as it is.

Hello Mark,
A good colourful shot of another disappearing asset. Great colours and clarity. I am not so sure that these places are disappearing because more people are taking foreign holidays, though this is partly to blame I guess. Is it not that older people's tastes are changing and becoming more sophisticated and that youngsters would rather spend more time in front of the tele and their computers etc?

I like the contrast of a goast place and the fun area signs. Looks like a place for fun, sorrow, crime ... good place even for a film scene or a video clip.
Nice job again, Nino.

Hi Mark, good image, with a sad mood with great contrast with the clown on the foreground.
at thumbnail level it isn't easy to have a good idea of the image, casue the clown is dominating the whole view. at this level is easy to see also the park on the background, and to understand that beautiful image.
thanks, ciao

Hi Mark
That's a pretty good contrast with that 'fun' face of the clown and the deserted place. Is that water or ice? the reflections on 'em are very nice. lovely 'nostalgic' work again.

This works really well Mark with the view of the fairground below with the big "in your face" clown above.
I guess going to the supermarket is the new idea of fun nowadays.

"terminator", man - allow me to skip all the bullstuff about great light etc. ... just let me to "digest" this great "out-of-this-world" scenery...
sort of a crown to your series on "end of the day of englad"...
interesting that this place probably looks more interesting now than when it is packed woth visitors (is it ever packed? that is the question!)
best, j.

Hi Mark,
Everything in this image supports the idea of finished business. Emptyness, rainy weather, backlight that leaves the entrance darkish. I like the light and reflections from wet asphalt.
Quartal capitalism has no time to wait the effects of climate change. At the moment budget airlines take people to south, who cares about next year...

Another world that is disappearing. Another that is being taken over by a chain. Chained... sad news. These are fossils now of an earlier, more innocent age, and the emptiness of a supermarket chain will take its place. People won't go there to have any fun. They will go there to be surprised at the end of the month when the bills fly in. So sad. Your shot expresses it. There's funfair alright, clown and all, but the ice below shows a deep freeze... something that goes beneath either Celsius or Fahrenheit.

PS Well, talking of weather, Mark, we had some balmy weeks which suddenly turned into a truly bone-chilling freeze. Tonight it is -29C with wind chill outside.
will be back

Hi Mark, a clever post full of contrasts, as the happy clown and colors against the empty place and your note... The colors and the frame you chose for the compo are fantastic! BR, Daniel
