Ah the wheeley-bin has such resonance for me! That and the saris and padded jackets and the smell of curry wafting down Edwardian terraces. You have captured this trans-cultural world so well in all your pictures, Kajal. This scene has an odd echo for me, as a European immigrant in Asia. Does she feel at home in Leister as I do in the sun-drenched backstreets of Bangkok? Does she have similar problems to me? I would love to exchange views with her, her with her full English breakfast with chili and me with my geng kiow whan Khai and Robinsons golden shred marmalade

Wonderful daily life shot. We don't have to know what she is laughing at, or why the other one is definitely not laughing. It's amusing to me because you caught it just at that supposedly amusing moment. And the wheelie bins are a magnificent prop. I have not seen another photo in trekearth with one of those, which is a shame. Great photo, thanks.

Andrew

Hi Kajal
Great shot!!! You took this picture at the very good moment. Laughing makes the lady as if she was a mischievous young girl... The composition is also good : the street perspective with the three persons. I like it very much!

Nice work, I've been trying a get a good shot of those rows of terraces for ages, but nothing has worked out. The detail you've got here is, with the luaghing lady, I think, just what the scene needs.

I love this shot kaj. The masi still loving an idea of an India that may no longer exist in the same way, but one that still lives so clearly for her. The foregrounded wheely bin hints at the slightly alienating urban environments that so many Indians found themselves as migrants to the UK. Thias shot is a great study that also shows how Indians have successfully maintianed a cultural autonomy in the UK. Brilliant

sounds like just about everyone really likes the trash bin, but I wonder what it would look like cropped out.
maybe there is a deeper cultural significance to these bins, but it seems like it could be left out without much problems.
I did a w/s, and it seems like the lady is peeking out laughing which seems pretty good to me. have a look and see what you think
