Photographer's Note

Noss Mayo is a very attractive town on the River Yealm and home to lots of water sports. When there we were fascinated to watch boats being rowed up and down the river. These boats are called pilot gigs powered by six rowers guided by a coxswain. They are 32 feet long and almost 5 feet wide at their widest point.

Hello David,
The boat and its crew provide a nice view and it's interesting to see that they are all slightly elderly men. Rowing must be a great hobby which they have probably been engaged in for many years. I was a bit puzzled at first before I understood which men were handling which oars. I like the horizontal and well balanced composition and also the nice colours, but I suppose that sharpness could have been a bit better.

Hello David, I was surprised to see that this is from Noss Mayo, did they go out to sea?
I like the composition and the close view.
I like the texture of the rippled water. Good timing as the oars come out of the water.

Hello David,

The boat and its elderly rowers are very nicely angled across the frame, with a wake, suggesting speed across the water.
Perhaps just a little soft in the focus.
