Photographer's Note

Yellow rapeseed (Brassica napus) fields are very much liked by photographers because they provide a very strong yellow colour to the landscape. Unfortunately, when I walked along this rapeseed field, the flowers were already gone, and the plant proudly displayed the pods with the oil-rich seeds. Rapeseed oil is not only great to use in the cuisine but also can be, at least with some newer engines, used directly as a biodiesel fuel. Supposedly the cost of making rapeseed oil is higher than the standard diesel fuel. But imagine that you have to purchase the fuel from a devil who uses the money from you to kill innocent people, torture civilians for no reason except of fulfilling his fantasies. This perspective changes everything, doesn’t it? Are you still happy to pay less to the devil or rather consider stopping the devil and at the same time do something good for environment?

Of course, we know now that biodiesel is not the ultimate answer to the sustainable renewable energy but passing the rapeseed field made me think that not only for the benefit of Ukrainian people but also for us and especially for the future generations, we have to speed up the transformation to renewable energy sources.
