Photographer's Note

The redevelopment of Pier Head and the surrounding area of the old docks nearby has been cause for controversey in Liverpool. For some it's a fascinating dialogue of styles, for others it's a clash. For me it all depends on your point of view, literally. From some spots the combination works, from some spots it doesn't. Whichever way you look at it, it's quite revolutionary, though.

IN THIS PICTURE you see some of the old Victorian architecture reflected on the new, shiny & black Mann Island building. This houses a centre for architecture, an art gallery and a few bars and bistros too. It was also prominently featured in a previous post of mine called "Baby's in Black".

Hello Benny,
this answers my question, what it looks like to see this black building not from far, but standing right in front of it. There is no dark atmoshphere at all, it is a mirror! I like this photo very much, especially the word "explore" in it! It is inviting.

Similar concept as your previous upload with a different but equally interesting effect. The word "explore" feels like an encouragement for fellow photographers to let their creative juices flow.

This is a great image of old and new. The reflection gives us the hint we need to appreciate the old. Here the mixture seems to be in harmony with the buildings reflected. Nice capture.

I don't know Liverpool so I can only critique what I see and read in your note, I enjoyed the juxtaposition of old and new but I'd probably be cropping quite a bit from the left to get rid of the over exposed reflection of the tall modern building.

Hello Benny,
All your Liverpool serie so far had brought up wonderful cityscape photos.
Looking at this marvelous reflection with the mirror of the iconic building (which I have a picture from 1993 on TE) and the street action gained on the lower side - I can say you could not possibly get rid of the overexposed part on the upper left, as Nina wrote, it would ruin the whole beautiful sight.
The outcome pleases me well.

Hello Benny, this shot needs careful studying; trying to decide what are reflections and what is the interior of the building.
You have captured the juxtaposition of old and modern very well. 'EXPLORE' would have been an alternative title!

Hallo Benny,
Liverpool staat zonder twijfel boven aan mijn lijstje met Britse steden die ik wil bezoeken, nu ik onlangs voor het eerst in Oxford, de vorige #1 ben geweest. Jouw foto's bevestigen die wens nog maar eens. Een prachtige reflectie van de oude architectuur in de glazen gevel. In veel steden zijn de oude havengebieden de laatste jaren opnieuw en zeer succesvol nieuw leven ingeblazen en Liverpool lijkt hierop geen uitzondering te zijn.

amazing light you had there! I like very much the vivid reflections of the old architecture in the new modern surfaces. Brilliant combination of the elements. The surfaces are also dividing the frame into few different areas as if it was a collage rather than an actual photograph.
