Photographer's Note

A Gothic image to mark Halloween!
This little tower is part of a building built as a 'folly' by a local landowner Benjamin Ferrand in 1796. Situated on the edge of an escarpment in an area of privately owned ancient woodland - Cottingley Park - it was built to provide the view of a picturesque ruin from the house at the opposite side of the valley. It also would provide a charming stopping place to those taking an excursion by horse or carriage on the carriageway alongside. A superior garden ornament in fact!
