Photographer's Note
Another picture from our little "mini" TE meeting in Oxfordshire in August, 2012 courtesy of Richard Beghin
Here we were walking along Oxford's Longwall Street and passing the gate to Magdalen College when I was delighted to see this beautiful and immaculate old car pass us by.
And not just any car, this is an Austin - and, to be precise, a 1925 Austin 12 h.p. Windsor saloon. In its day, the Austin 12 was a popular British motor car, being efficient and very reliable, if a little slow, and they were extensively used as taxicabs, particularly in London.
For those eagle-eyed people here, yes, I did post a photo of this same car back in 2012 but , although in the same street, it was a different shot - and I think this one, taken a few yards farther along the street, is maybe just a little better!
Here are the co-ordinates of the location: 51.753022, -1.248475
ISO 400, 1/200 sec at f/11, focal length 55mm.

Hello John,
For a lover of old cars this should have been like a dream come true. Just casually meeting something like this in an ordinary street doesn't happen every day. I admit it is a beauty, but the real beauty of the photo is seeing this old car being used as it was intended, not just parked on a lawn with its bonnet open for anyone to stare at its "private parts".
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello John,
You don't often see it as old and still looking as new.
This model is even too old for Morse who still liked red cars.
A photo with humour when you look at the sign forbidden for cyclists. It seems to be attached to the mudguard.
A beautiful photo. Well done!
Have a good week.
Be careful and stay safe, groet Rob

Hello John, with your interest and knowledge of vintage cars, this must have a been a real treat for you. It is a lovely example, obviously beautifully kept.
So shiny and red, it really stands out against the pale background.
Thanks for sharing, kind regards Jean.

Hi John,
The good times are coming back and in great style there (hehe ..). Very good to see such a photo. The view rests me from seeing so much modernity and chaos in the current traffic. Beautiful picture my friend.
Congratulations

Bonjour, cher John,
Elle a encore fière allure cette Austin de 1925. Heureusement qu'il existe des amoureux des voitures anciennes pour apprécier davantage cette composition.
Amitiés.

Hello John,
I think many people hope to see Inspector Morse's red Jaguar when they are in Oxford, but this is a truly beautiful classic car as well. I really like its dark red colours, which stands out perfectly from the pale yellowish wall. Superb sharpness also, great work!

Hi John,
Boxy shape is so typical to cars of that era. And still there is something original on this Austin. Maybe it is the small details of the front. Excellent angle, and old city wall is quite appropriate background for this red and black classic.

Hi John
You have always an eye looking on the old cars, and you know a lot of things about the, trade mark and caracteristics... Dothey need a special permit to drive these old cars not complying with the today rules? No problem for the speed limit I suppose!
Best regards

Hello John,
This is so very you!
You seem able to spot particularly old and immaculate cars no matter where you are!
This really is a cracker, very well maintained and obviously loved.
People who own cars like this take a great pride in what they own and treat them lovingly and respectfully. (You and Len have a lot in common.)
Having captured it against this plain wall allows the vehicle to stand out and seems to give the car a sense of movement.
The details are sharp and the shiny textures confirm our opinions about care and attention.
Have a great weekend,
Bev :-)
