Photographer's Note

Saltburn-by-the-Sea, a small coastal town in the North East of England, is home to the last remaining North Sea pier. It is also a haven for surfers. Summer and winter they can be seen bobbing about on their surf boards, seemingly waiting an eternity for the right wave to greet them. In the winter months, I admire their determination. In the summer, I just watch in envy. This picture was taken late one July evening. A surfer, his labours completed for the day, just sat on the sand next his board and enjoyed the sunset while watching friends and rivals catching the last few waves before the light fell. Taken on the Fuji and lightly cropped PP.
