Photographer's Note

After a winter of refurbishment, the water balance cliff railway reopened for Easter. This charming reminder of times gone by still serves the purpose for which it was first installed in 1884, transporting holidaymakers from the cliff top ( hotels ) to the beach front 120ft below.

A WS photo shows a window detail.

The sustenance shown here is available at the bottom of the railway, after consuption of which the walk up would be impossible, you need the railway so thoughtfully provided.

Taken on a very misty morning, the sun broke through just as I arrived, and gave this interesting image of a bright foreground against the still misty beach and cliff.
