Photographer's Note

Absent drinker

In a pub in London, just around the corner from the Royal Hospital in Chelsea.
The hat on the table marks out the absent drinker as one of the famous Chelsea Pensioners, elderly veterans of the British Army.
The Royal Hospital was founded in 1682 by King Charles II and was intended for the 'succour and relief of veterans broken by age and war'.
There's a view of the hospital in the workshop.
