The Last Defence, a photo from Dorset, England

Photographer's Note

Taken this morning at Corfe Castle in Dorset. As the weather had forecast frost and fog, I decided to venture to Corfe before work. This place is renowned for low lying mist, but despite there being a lot to the west, there was no mist around the castle. Still I decided to wait for sunrise and catch coming up over the horizon before it was too strong.

Stunning photo. I love the landscape that's draped in the sunlight of a rising sun. It looks like a fantasy land. The castle in the photo adds a lot to this. Your composition is great, use of light is amazing and the colors are stunning.

Stunning shot Adam, you've made the best possible use of the light, and it's an unusual but highly effective PoV, made even better by the perfect composition. Now that's quite a sense of nature you have! Smelling a good shot only by having heard a forecast of frost and fog upcomming and taking advantage of the very wakening moment of the day.
The collors look so vivid, so precisely exposed. I am starting to ask myself here, what should I seek for to be able of doing such shots. Just wonder, how much the result actually depends on the photographer and how much on his equipment and a random occation. Really, where is the line between the talent of a photographer and the subject itself?

On a slight downside, I would see the picture perfectly composed if I would see the whole island including the cropped corner in the left. And I am curious, whether the shadow in the left upper corner is a natural darkness waiting for the rays to lit it or is it a sign of a fully closed aperture?

Anyhow, this picture gives me reasons to think and learn how I should pay more attention to setting the scene by appearing in the right place at the right time. Thanks!
