Photographer's Note
A view from Södermalm island showing Stockholm's Old town and glimpses of the city center. I have posted similar photos before, this time I took a picture because I liked the red "chain" floating on the unusually blue water. It was taken on the same "sunny Sunday" as my last photo.
I guess the "chain" (I don't know which word should be properly used) is meant to keep boats away from the large construction site just to the left outside the photo. Since a few years, and for several more years to come, work is going on here to build a new sluice to regulate the flow of water from lake Mälaren into the Baltic Sea. A large part of the work consists of creating an entirely new infrastructure for the traffic connecting the two islands, as well as new buildings on the south side. The water seen here is one of the westernmost corners of the Baltic Sea.
The large building with a flag on the roof, rising above the other buildings of the Old town (Gamla stan) is the Royal Palace, built during the first half of the 18th century.

I find myself staring into the photo trying to see what I recognise. By your note I understand that the large construction site is still in operation. A couple of years ago I wanted to walk to the Fotografiska, it took ages via the diversion, but well worth it and a lovely lunch.
A fine overview of the Old Town

Hello Gert,
It's a great treat to have such a wide and interesting view of the city.
As you note, the blue and red of the f/g are a very interesting introduction to the scene and you have explained its purpose.
There is so much to see! I was struck by the importance of the jetties and landing decks, for with the city built on islands, these will have great significance.
You have achieved a fine sense of depth, the forefront detailing tall but very eclectic buildings, whilst in the b/g, we can see the tall, church towers. (There is, for me, a surprising amount of green to be seen on roof tops.)
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Hi Gert,
The red chain is eye-catching. The point of view is showing the details of the buildimgs, of the Royal Palace and of the church. The light is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

Hej Gert
The red barrier gate also marks a difference in the textures of the water either side. Good sharpness and the old terrace houses in the bg are charming. Tfs!

Hej Gert,
Et meget smukt billede med Gamla Stan og andre dele af Stockholm og det blå vand i forggrunden på en smuk og solrig forårsdag. Jeg kan godt genkende flere bygninger, som for eksempel det kongelige slot.

Hi Gert
Those chains also get used to trap debris from construction sites. The red does break up the blue of the water. A good view over to the old town.
cheers

Dear Gert,
This photo is a particularly good thanks to the red industrial - and otherwise ugly - chain. Of course it would look as a nice post-card, but the chain is the cherry on the cake somehow.
Best Wishes,
Gy.

Holmertz, yes, that the guy called Gert went through my mind seeing your critique this morning , so now I will not mistake you for your brother anymore. Happy that you haven´t been cross with me.
Helllo and what a lovely view. Makes me feel the salt in the air which I miss enormously. The red lineis a great lead in.
Have a lovely weekend
Best wishes

Hello Gert,
The red chain separates dark blue water from a bit lighter blue.
I wonder where you could take this photo from.
I have found the royal palace as you indicated and I think I can also see the tower of the St. Jacobs Kyrka.
Very clear, sharp and colourful city panorama.
Best regards, Paul
