Photographer's Note

We enjoyed White Christmas this year (in my Mum's village first time since 2014) but New Year weather is grey and dump so I go back to the memories from my trip to Sweden a year ago.

This and the WS photos were taken 35 minutes apart. Which one do you prefer?

Wishing all my TE friends a happy healthy and peaceful New Year.

Hello Kasia,
I've been waiting for a second WS but it doesn't seem to be coming. The umbrella signals a mild temperature that would have disappointed you in northern Sweden in December, but the WS indicates a perfect snowfall. Is it just the natural light of winter that makes the photo look monochrome and the day dull? The flash brings out colours in a marvellous way. Did you hire that person to walk ahead of you, or did you actually see someone by coincidence in this forest road? I like the blurred figure and I was a bit surprised to actually find some colours among the trees. But weren't you afraid of wild animals? There might have been bears and wolves here.
They are enjoyable pictures anyway, and I wish you a happy new year, at least one better than shitty '20 and '21.

I prefer this one, not because of the lighting but because of the motion blurr. I wish we could see more posts like this on TE. Happy New Year Kasia, looking forward to more of your shots, and awesome stories :)

I think I prefer the main entry with the presence of the person and the motion blur as well as as the near-B&W effect.

Hi Kasia
We haven't had snow for nearly as long as your mother's village. A good slow photo with the person moving - and this is the one I prefer with its good atmosphere.

Szczęśliwego Nowego Roku 2022 dla Ciebie i Twojej rodziny. Oby był lepszy niż ten, który minął.
Ładne zimowe zdjęcie ze znikającą postacią. Ale po co parasol?
W Warszawie pierwszy raz od wielu lat mielismy białe świa, ale śnieg juz spłynął.

A very atmospheric image, especially with the blurred figure. We get very little snow in the UK these days so good to see in such an image.

Hi Kasia,
Some fresh snow adds light to grey day. Blurry character with an umbrella creates dream like feeling to this. It is surprising how different the place looked just 35 minutes later. Heavy snowfall shot with a flash makes a special effect. But I think I prefer this main upload version. Happy New Year!

Ciao Kasia,2 very original way to show the snow and the landscape, the first with the ghost walking,create by a long exposure, and the WS with the flashed snow,great ideas for a very different way to close the year,i prefere the main. Happy New Year and thanks,Luciano

Lepa fotografija cestitka za Novu godinu.
Lepa suma sa oputem u danu sa snegom, dobro pokazano sa lepim bojama, kontrastom, perspektivom i uhvacenim trenutkom sa siluatom setaca.
Dobar rad sa lepom fotografijom u radionici.

My preference goes to the photo in the WS. For me it has more magical atmosphere. Our friends on TE seem to like your main picture better.

Very good photogebic effect, well made, interesting composition with forest, path and lonely people, the two versions are photogenic, in b&w good focal point with this person and very good WS with flash for the dynamic effect for snowfall ... tfs and Happy New Year 2022 !

Czesc Kasiu,
Trudno sobie wyobrazic ze te dwa zdjecia byly zrobine w tak krotkim czasie od siebie.
Bardzo ladna rozmyta sylwetka tutaj. Swietne efekty na obu fotografiach. Myslalem ze to nadal z polskiej wioski, jednak przyroda na kontynencie tak niewiele sie rozni.
Slyszalem ze loty Polska - UK sa odwolane, ale nie wiem czy wszystkie czy niektore, ciekawe co teraz zrobisz?

Splendid perspective at work here with the ghostly like figure instantly invites you into the image providing a focal point and that magical effect of the snow. Can almost feel the quiet of walking down there alone, great winter image and great depth in this image but I wonder if it would be better in monochrome.. HNY22

You have a beautiful view of this man on the winter road. The induction of motion and numbness of the man is very cleverly done. I like this photo. Clarity and exposure are well done.

A magnificent composition in B&W, with the charm of the snow in this beautiful perspective, the photo of the WS has a great impact with the large snowflakes falling, I lean for it.

The length of the road is creating depth. The point of view is showing the details of the trees. I prefer the photo in the workshop account of the snow flakes and of the colors. Happy New Year,

I definitely prefer this main photo. I like the gray tones, and the blur of the person walking with the umbrella reminds me of photos from the past. It almost looks like a phantom is walking through the trees. It's a bit eerie... I hope the new year has gotten off to a good start for you. Take care!

I liked these two versions, the snow against the blue in the WS and the personage in the main post. I only faced snow falling once in patagonia, at the end of the day. my town had frozen rain, but never real snow.
