Photographer's Note

Sunsets in my city are usually of great beauty (no envy to Greece :-)). In this shot there's a beautiful sunset which reminded me of Van Gogh from the moment I saw it; but unfortunately it's the result of an echological disaster. What you see in the picture is not clouds, but smoke. In August 2005, 32.000 hectares (like 32.000 football fields) were burnt in my region, Galicia; over 80% of the fires were intentional. In 2006 the figures were even worse. One of the results were the unusual floods in the winter, as the naked mounts couldn't drain the rain water.
In the foreground, the docks of Vigo. Opposite, the Morrazo Peninsule. On the left, under that small cloud, the Cíes Islands sheltering the ria from the Atlantic Ocean.
Post-processing: cropping part of the sky and the city;
curves, contrast, noise, sharpening.
I've posted a WS with a darker version, more dramatic.
