Photographer's Note

November evening dying into blue dusk. A view through gracile branches of a Maecenas bush toward the last patches of the light of the parting day. The ridge of Mt. Srebrnjak 2010 m high, meaning in Slovenian language 'Silvery', subtly glow in blue.

Scanned by Nikon CoolScann ED-IV. Cropped. At 4.000 pix picture width mountains masked, lightened and contrast increased using Curves. Since increased contrast increases also blue tint, I pushed it back adding red and yellow (Hue tool). Mask saved to channel-1. Most of the sky selected manually, the mask shrank for 10 pix and feathered 20 pix radius, average mode. The purpose being to protect only the sky during sharpening in the later phase. Mask saved to channel-2. Picture resampled to 800 pix width. Channel-1 mask loaded and mountains sharpened using Unsharp mask, level 70, 1 pix radius. Mask inverted. Channel-2 mask loaded using exclusive-or function. In this way only branches of the bush are selected. Sharpened using Unsharp mask, level 45, 2 pix radius. JPEG level 38 (Corel PhotoPaint notation).
