Photographer's Note

I got up from bed early this morning, new what is going on outside and new what to expect: nice moon just about to drop below the horizon, with the rising sun across the sky. What surprised a bit was the sky: loads of pretty fluffy clouds. So I set up and waited for the right cloud formation to appear. It eventually did and I love the way the moon is surrounded by clouds.

Technique: focused on the moon, that is why the clouds look a bit out of focus. BW conversion using PS CS3 using separate layers for moon, clouds and the sky to achieve the best tonality. All three layers were also used for noise reduction and sharpening, each layer at different settings.

Nikon D200 + Sigma 70-200mmm set at 200mm, tripod, cable release, mirror lock up, polarising filter. 1/5sec @ F22 @ ISO 100
