Photographer's Note

The days of future past- a new construction boom in Bucharest recalls the past days of massive urbanization projects in the communist era. Seen here from the shores of the "suburban sea" that is Mill Lake (Lacul Morii)- also presented in this gallery- a new suspension bridge arches over the Dambovita river. This is the second bridge in this style to be built in recent years in Bucharest. Golden Gate? Pah! We have our own Rusty Fenceposts (TM), built by a Chinese company...
Technical details : a long 300 mm zoom (here at 200 mm) is used to compress perspective and stack together three projects: this bridge and two business buildings in the background. The old Nikon D40X with its beautiful CCD colors here was put to work in BW mode for nostalgic reasons, also a simulation grain filter was added for extra effect- it says Agfa APX pro 100-don't ever recall actually using one, so, please tell me, does this even resemble the looks? Anyhow, to me it evokes the old newspaper pictures- remember those half-tones, with visible pixels and always BW or sepia? Seen a lot of those as a kid in the newspapers of the era, praising the Supreme Leader (TM) and his (?) precious suggestions leading to " a better future through development in the ..(insert anything here) sector". Our old time commie leader was -poor him- a misunderstood genius- he had some invaluable advice on anything really and he had to inspire everyone to actually do anything. They say even all the new ideas were in fact his, and he gave them away for free to the people during long and tenuous four-five hour speeches every week.
Looking back now I understand why those had to be made- how could we get ideas otherwise, and poor him, he really really really thought for us all.
